EFTU E-waste recycling center is established by a young Ethiopian Entrepreneur (Abdi Sultan, Sadam Hussein and Jemal kemal) with more than 10 million Ethiopian Birr. They are dedicated to reduce the impact of E-waste on the Environment and Public Health due to mismanagement and got profit from the process. This young Entrepreneur work focused the three pillars of sustainable development, i.e. Human, Environment and Economy.
Now a days E-waste becomes the challenge of the world due to its impact on the Environment and Public health. Therefore, EFTU E-Waste Recycling Center was established to neutralize hazardous e-waste pollutants like lead and mercury that threaten soil, water, agriculture, and public health in rapidly urbanizing Ethiopia, while recovering valuable metals and plastics to reduce import reliance and divert waste from Addis Ababa's overflowing landfills. It creates green jobs and stimulates local economies through formal collection and processing supply chains, pioneers circular economy systems aligned with national sustainability policies, serves as an educational hub to ensure regulatory compliance and responsible disposal awareness, and drives recycling technology innovation for long-term environmental leadership.
We started the EFTU E-Waste Recycling Center by first obtaining the necessary license from the Federal Environmental Protection Authority to comply with national regulations and international conventions, such as the Basel Convention. To ensure our
operations would be environmentally sound, we conducted an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of our organization. Recognizing that over 60% of electronic and electrical equipment (EEE) comprises plastic, we prioritized acquiring machinery to crush the plastic and prepare it into pellets. These pellets can then be used as raw material for various products, such as outdoor tables and household items. This strategic approach laid the foundation for our center and its commitment to sustainable recycling practices
